EXPLORING ENUGU: NIKE LAKE RESORT

Y’all know all work and no play makes everyone dull right? So I believe that makes the reason why I decided to embark on a tourism trip with my friends after out 20 weeks of Nigerian Law school classes obvious. I knew I couldn’t stay in Enugu without my travelling and exploring side coming to life coupled with the fact that Enugu has the most tourist sites in the whole of south east!

Initially we wanted to visit Nkwo Pine forest and Waterfalls but the challenge was how to get there. If you have ever visited Agbani, Enugu Nigeria or Enugu as a city you’d know that Agbani is a journey away from the main town; in fact getting to Shoprite from Agbani is almost an hour journey with a lot of bus stops where you’d alight and enter a new bus. The distance and the fact none of us knew the place left us with no other option than to look for a cab man that knew the place. The downside however was that we had to be very careful before the cab man would take us to another location bearing in mind how wicked people can be. The only cab man we had in mind that we partially trusted didn’t know how to get to Nkwo Pine Forest and Google map told us that it was at the outskirts of Enugu town. After much adumbration, we decided to visit Nike Lake Resorts which was conveniently in Enugu town.

When we had made up our minds, checked internet for pictures of the area, we decided to call the cab guy again to know how much he’d charge to convey us to the location. The deal was that he would come to school and pick us, drop us off at the resort and we’d call him when we are done so he’d come pick us again and drop us off in school. We agreed for ₦5,000 which was partially a good bargain.

Since we were going for a semi picnic (we were going to stay almost the whole day and I didn’t want the guys with me to suffer) I had to start making arrangements for light refreshments which just included snacks, drinks and water. On the said Friday morning, the guys bought food for everyone which we ate in the cab whilst we were on our way.

We encountered a hitch when we got to the resort, they wouldn’t allow our refreshments or our camera inside the building unless we were lodging there. After much talk, we were taken to the reception where we paid an exorbitant amount of ₦4,000 just for us to take pictures there. We paid, got our receipt before we were allowed in with our stuff.

Considering the fact we paid money, we decided to take pictures in every nook and cranny of the Resort so we’d utilize our money well to the extent we reached their dustbin area! (so this is a subtle reminder that this post is picture loaded). Generally the Resort has a calm and serene environment due to the cool breeze coming from the sea. Although the crocodile didn’t come out (which was an answered prayer to Mohammed) for whatever reason (maybe because the Resort has only one crocodile).

The Resort has options of boat ride which is ₦1,500 per person which we didn’t go for. The resort has a lot of masquerade statutes we had to take silly pictures with,

benches,

trees

and rocks which were very picturesque.

Let’s not forget the amazing lakeside view!

I told y’all we took pictures everywhere!

Say hi to our cab guy

I thoroughly enjoyed myself because I made a lot of memories captured in beautiful images (over 400+ images) that I would look back to and surely smile.

And it just had to end with Cold stone ice cream!

Enugu people, una welldone o, your city is truly beautiful and I can’t wait for my next adventure.

cheers, Machi
